El Rapolao Red Wine is an authentic oenological gem that comes from the mythical site of the same name, located in Valtuille de Abajo, within the “Vino de Paraje” Bierzo Denomination of Origin. This unique corner is characterized by its peculiar conditions that make it ideal for cultivating Mencía grapes. The El Rapolao site is exceptional due to its different orientations, always facing northwest and north, and its soils composed of clay with rounded stones, which in the highest part present a special red clay. These unique conditions decisively influence the quality and character of the Mencía grapes that grow in this place. The Mencía vines in El Rapolao have an impressive age, exceeding 90 years, which brings complexity and depth to the grapes. The altitude of the vineyards, situated at 518 meters above sea level, contributes to the freshness and elegance of the wines produced in this area.

The production of El Rapolao is a process that combines tradition and modernity.

The grapes are vatted with stems, which means the whole clusters are maintained, and they ferment in used French oak barrels. Part of the grapes are destemmed without crushing and added to the barrels, where fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts.

The maceration of the grapes in El Rapolao extends for 35-40 days, a completely manual process that allows extracting all the nuances and flavors. After fermentation and maceration, the wine undergoes 12 months of aging in used 500-liter French oak barrels, which adds complexity and structure. The result is a red wine of exceptional quality, dry, with intense color and abundant fruit, characterized by the freshness and modernity we seek in winemaking in the region. El Rapolao is a genuine expression of the viticultural potential of Bierzo and a true gift for lovers of good wine.
