Senglar Más de Llucia

The Red Wine Senglar Mas de Llucia is a tribute to the land and time. Coming from one of the oldest plots of the Mas de Llucia estate, this wine is born from vines planted over 50 years ago, on a privileged hillside that concentrates the best of Teruel’s landscape (Spain). The name “Senglar”, meaning wild boar in Catalan, evokes the untamed force of nature surrounding the vineyard. The soil where these centenary vines are cultivated is clayey, with a structure that favors nutrient retention, providing depth and complexity to the wine. Located at the top of a gentle slope, this vineyard allows rainwater to filter naturally, forcing the plant to focus its energy on producing higher quality grapes with lower yields. A perfect balance between concentration and elegance. The altitude, above 650 meters, is a constant in Mas de Llucia’s vineyards. This factor not only preserves the wine’s natural freshness, but also represents a commitment to sustainability and climate change adaptation, allowing for slower and more controlled grape ripening.

The manual harvest, in 20 kg boxes, ensures that each cluster arrives at the winery in perfect condition. After meticulous destemming and crushing, maceration and fermentation begin, fundamental processes for extracting the wine’s character and identity. Racking is done by tasting, selecting the optimal moment based on the balance between fruit, tannin and freshness. To provide roundness and structure, the wine undergoes light aging in second-year French oak barrels for 24 weeks. This aging is designed to soften tannins and refine the wine’s profile, without masking the fruit’s delicacy or introducing dominant wood aromas. The result is a red wine with soul, that honestly expresses the terroir’s strength and the nobility of an old vine.
