The Red Wine Valderroa 2017 from Bodega Valdesil presents this Red Wine from D.O. Valdeorras (Spain) made from the Mencía grape variety. Created in 1991, this red wine shows the purest essence of Mencía from Valdeorras. Its production proves that there is life beyond the magnificent Godello whites of the region. With a marked Atlantic character, great and intense fruit load and energetic minerality. Cultivation: The grape variety used is Mencía, from vineyards of small estates belonging to local winegrowers from the towns of Rubiá, a Rúa, Petín and O Bolo, located on slopes of slate soil, at an average altitude of 500 meters with various orientations. Manual harvest, fermentation with indigenous yeasts and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The vines are between 10 and 30 years old. They are characterized by having a colluvial soil, with little depth, derived from the weathering of black slate rock. Regarding climate, it is humid Mediterranean with continental tendency, where temperatures and precipitation are gradual. Production: It is carried out through manual harvest in 20 kg boxes, rapid transport to the winery and selection table. Thus, cold pre-fermentation is done for 4 days, followed by fermentation with wild yeasts in open stainless steel tanks with daily pump-overs for 15 days. Finally, it has an aging of 9 months in stainless steel tanks with periodic racking. The recommended consumption temperature is 16ºC. It also needs a few minutes of aeration to offer its full potential.
