Viñas del Vero La Miranda de Secastilla Red Wine

The Viñas del Vero La Miranda de Secastilla Red Wine is crafted from an excellent selection of grapes, primarily Garnacha, complemented by Syrah and Parraleta. It belongs to the D.O. Somontano. The Garnacha from Secastilla was harvested during the first week of October, after the Syrah and Parraleta had been harvested during the second half of September. In all three cases, the harvest was done manually, and the grapes were destemmed at the vineyard to begin fermentation right there. After refrigeration, alcoholic fermentation was carried out at a temperature below 25°C for twelve days. After pressing, the wine was naturally clarified by decantation, and three rackings were performed before filling the French oak barrels, where it remained for eight months. Once barrel aging was complete, the wine was filtered and bottled. It has an alcohol content of 14%, a pH of 3.42, total acidity of 5.23 g/l and residual sugar of 2.55 g/l.

The vineyards of the Secastilla Valley are located in the northeastern tip of Somontano and feature a special «Mediterranean microclimate». Viñas del Vero cultivates 48 hectares of vineyard in this valley, mainly Garnacha along with Parraleta and Syrah. The relative altitude and special orientation of these vineyards make it an area with many hours of sunshine, which favors fruit ripening. This entire valley is dry-farmed and the soils are sandy-loam with considerable stoniness. The Viñas del Vero winery takes its name from a river in the Somontano region, the Vero River, famous for its ravines, gorges and canyons. The Viñas del Vero winery was established in Somontano in late 1986 with the acquisition of 550 hectares of land in Barbastro and other nearby towns. In 2008, Viñas del Vero became part of the González Byass Wine Family.
