The Red Wine Finca La Montesa, crafted by the prestigious Bodegas Palacios Remondo, represents the historical richness and oenological innovation of D.O.Ca. Rioja. This wine, which will see the light in May 2024, is the result of a careful viticultural process that pays homage to the historical prominence of Garnacha in the landscapes of Monte Yerga. Coming from the grapes of La Montesa vineyard, this wine draws from the parcels of Valtomelloso, Valfrio and Valviejo, located in the municipality of Alfaro, within Rioja Oriental. Soils: Terrain formed by quaternary carbonated sedimentation, with a varied composition that includes volcanic rock, quartz and sandstone, as well as clay-ferrous colluvium, silt and sand. These soils possess a petrocalcic horizon that provides freshness and mineral richness to the wine. Orography and orientation: A gentle 10% slope on the foothills of Monte Yerga, with east-southeast orientation, allowing excellent sun exposure. Altitude: 550 meters above sea level. Climate: Continental Mediterranean with Atlantic influences, characterized by extreme differences between winter and summer. Rainfall: 361 mm per year, with 15 cm of snow on average. Average annual temperature: 14.61°C, with minimums of -2.7°C and maximums of 38.8°C. The vineyard, registered in organic agriculture, is composed of vines with an average age of 36 years and a density of 3,000 vines per hectare. The elaboration of Finca La Montesa follows a careful process: Fermentation: Uses indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks to preserve the authenticity of the grapes. Aging: For 12 months in oak barrels (85% French and 15% American), with a balanced proportion of new and used barrels to provide complexity and freshness. Rest: The wine undergoes a refined resting process in bottle before reaching the market, ensuring its evolution and roundness. Finca La Montesa embodies the viticultural tradition of the fifth generation of the Palacios Muro family, re-established in 1947 by Don José Palacios Remondo. This wine, with its fresh and vital character, reflects the essence of Garnacha and its inseparable bond with the landscapes of Monte Yerga.
