Legaris Reserva

Legaris Reserva is the flagship wine of Bodega Legaris and the most awarded of all their Ribera del Duero wines. The character of Legaris Reserva is clearly marked both by the vineyard and by the masterful blend of different wines made with the Tempranillo variety and aged in different types of barrels. This is a wine produced in Curiel de Duero (Valladolid) belonging to the D.O. Ribera del Duero, crafted by Legaris winemaker Jorge Bombín.

The Tempranillo grapes used for making Legaris Reserva red wine are hand-harvested in 15-kilo boxes; upon arrival at the winery they are stored in a cold chamber overnight at 6°C and the following morning are meticulously inspected on the selection table. Once destemmed and transported by conveyor belts, they arrive practically whole to the small 5,200-liter truncated-cone stainless steel tanks, where we separately elaborate the different grape origins. We begin with a pre-fermentation maceration of several days at low temperature before alcoholic fermentation, which was carried out with native yeasts at 28-30°C, to express the characteristics of the different terroirs, respecting the uniqueness of each vintage. During fermentation, frequent manual punch-downs are performed and the wine is racked after 3 weeks of vatting, obtaining only the free-run wine without subsequent addition of press wine. Subsequently, Legaris Reserva underwent malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels. The wine then remains for 20 months in fine-grain French oak Bordeaux barrels, half new and half one-wine-old, from 10 different cooperages. After gentle clarification with egg whites, it was bottled in May. Legaris Reserva red wine was finished aging during its stay in the bottle rack for 24 months before beginning commercialization. Only 86,037 Bordeaux bottles of Legaris Reserva Ribera del Duero are produced.
