Marañones Picarana

The Marañones Picarana White Wine represents the most authentic essence of the albillo real variety, an emblematic grape from the San Martín de Valdeiglesias region. The plots are located in the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos, at an altitude between 750 and 850 meters, where granite soils provide a special character. The vines, trained in bush form and aged between 30 and 70 years, produce small clusters of the highest quality. Yields are limited, allowing the unique nuances of this variety to be concentrated. The estate’s climate provides a perfect balance between freshness and ripening. The characteristics of the granite soil give the wine exceptional texture, sapidity and a sober and elegant floral profile. The 2022 vintage was marked by challenging climatic conditions. After a rainy and mild winter, spring was dry and hot, causing late budbreak. Summer brought several heat waves that, although they impacted young vines, allowed maintaining impeccable sanitary conditions and optimal ripening. The harvest, carried out between August 4th and 12th, was quick and careful, preserving the quality of each cluster. Manual harvesting, carried out in 12 kg boxes, ensured that the grapes reached the winery in perfect condition. A meticulous selection allowed working with the best grapes. The must fermented for about 30 days in used barrels of 228, 500 and 600 liters, as well as larger foudres (1200 and 1500 liters). Subsequently, the wine aged for 10 months before being blended and bottled in summer 2023. Marañones Picarana presents floral sobriety on the nose, with delicate nuances and a balance between freshness and maturity. Its long and elegant finish reflects the richness of the granite soils and the quality of albillo real.
